It looks like your located in the states, if so, can you tell me what writing is on your locks as mine says 'Cheney UK'. I notice you have the same original case as my Musicmaster. I've been playing it through a blackface bassman and having a blast. Even the original "sharkskin" tolex case is in great shape. The finish is white, but has yellowed to a creamy hue, and just looks right! It is in amazing condition too, with nice original frets, smooth original Kluson double-line tuners, super tight neck pocket, nitrate tortoise pickguard, and a nice dark (Brazilian?) fretboard. but it just plays and feels perfect in every way. Both the Duo-Sonic and Musicmaster employ excellent wide range pickups that are.

I don't know if it's the perfect setup, or the full C shape of the neck, or what exactly. The rosewood fingerboard is another feature of the Fender fast-action necks. I have had a few of these, including a duo-sonic and a Mustang, but this one has something about it that sets it apart from the others. I've been looking for a photo of him using this on stage, but so far have come up empty. The guitar was previously owned by Trace Adkins guitarist Mark Gillespie, who took this little guy with him on tour all over the globe. Imagine a vintage strat on the neck position and that's what you get out of this. 1972 Fender Musicmaster Bass Guitar Vintage Original Short Scale Rare Olympic White Over Daphne Blue w/ White GuardUsed Very Good. It's the long scale model, so it's very playable, and it sounds amazing. It's a cheap experiment that may work perfectly.Ok, so it's not a 60's Strat, but it IS a pretty cool piece if i do say so myself! A very clean, 100% original 1966 Musicmaster II. If I were me I'd try an inexpensive, good Strat pickup, a solid cover, and a pickguard, first. It's string wrapped, like the orignal '51, and doesn't really need a cover. His bass pickups and customer service are superior and you can actually e-mail or phone the guy to discuss it. The original pickup is a 6 pole piece Strat pickup, but the Aero Musicmaste. Aero manufactures a replacement Musicmaster pickup that dramatically improves the sound of the bass.

Fender never made a 4 pole piece pickup for this bass. Rob DeStefano at Fret Tech could fix you up. Aero is the first manufacturer to ever make a Musicmaster pickup. It would be good to dust off the trigometry book and figure out where the strings would pass over the poles at that string length. You've got a 30" short scale compared to the usual Fender 34" long scale, but my guess is that a 4-pole pickup early 50s Precision or late 60s Telecaster bass would have a field that would cover your string spacing. On eBay, Aero has a 4-pole pickup that drops in with no mods. This will fit into a solid cover without holes. You won't damage the coil, because it's on a plastic form. Get a Guitar Madness 62z bridge pickup and push the poles flush with the top of the coil form. You could get a flush pole Guitar Madness pickup for $8.95 to $12.75 and that would work and have a fuller tone than most original Fender '71 pickups. The six poles aren't ideal, but the overlap of the magnetic fields gets the job done just fine. It's easy to find and expensive because your 1971 Musicmaster Bass had a 1971 *Stratocaster or Mustang* pickup with flush poles and a solid cover. Ah well, I'm (like usual) very happy about this purchase and the price tag of $699 delivered. Oh and it came with the original hard case in PERFECT condition !!! Tuners have been replaced with made in Germany Schallers back in the days.Īll in all it's a GREAT playin' little bass with a lot of tork on the JB pup and feels just like playing a guitar What makes the pre-CBS Musicmaster possibly the ultimate retirement guitar is that it has a super short 22.5' scale. While true the guitar was made all the way up until 1982, of course the best ones are the pre-CBS era '59 to '64 models. So I'll probably put a new one in with vintage specs. Fender Musicmaster was Fender's student guitar. Now I wish I had the original pup to put back in it but they are hard to find (for a reasonnable cost) In the bridge position (really well done) and a homemade pickguard that looks kinda like a J bass well done as well. Original black color body that looks like it's been to war and back, modified with an old Fender P bass pickup Herb at Fender, feel like the best bass neck I've ever used. It's a 1971 short scale neck made by the great G. I just received my new (old) 1971 Fender Musicmaster bass this morning.
